Historical Pearl on the Silk Road: sa_partners Develops Master Plan for the City of Ordubad in the Autonomous Republic of Nakhchivan

Since 2001, the city of Ordubad in the southern part of the Autonomous Republic of Nakhchivan has been included on UNESCO's Tentative List of World Heritage Sites. Located in the South Caucasus along the ancient Silk Road and bordering Iran, Ordubad has a centuries-old history influenced by Persian, Islamic, and socialist cultures, which contributes to its significant historical and cultural status.

The master plan aims to transform the historic city into a modern urban environment while preserving its rich cultural heritage. Special emphasis is placed not only on the protection of architectural landmarks but also on the unique urban structure characterized by its radial street system, the mahallas, and the kahriz, a sophisticated water management system renowned throughout the region.
