Spatial Development Model for Merged Municipality – Common Future Perspective in the Eastern Aargau Rhine Valley

sa_partners developed a joint strategic spatial development concept for the 8 municipalities that merged to form the new large municipality of Zurzach. At the centre of this integral spatial concept was the development of a new common identity and a vision for the future. General trends such as digital transformation, social change, climate change, etc., were taken into account and were anticipated in order to lead the new municipality into a sustainable future.

Within the framework of a hybrid participatory and broad-based process, a vision and guiding principles for spatial development were formulated based on the strengths of the large municipality. As a product, the intervention plan summarises the most important interventions and creates a resilient basis for a qualitative and coordinated municipality development and the subsequent planning procedures.
